One further coronavirus death in the region's hospitals

One new coronavirus death has been confirmed in a hospital in Birmingham – but none in the Black Country or Staffordshire in the latest figures.

It means the total number of Covid deaths in the region's hospitals now stands at 7,591, while a further 1,436 have died in care homes in the Black Country, Staffordshire and Birmingham after testing positive for coronavirus.

A further 22 deaths were confirmed in the region's care homes on Tuesday.

NHS England confirmed a further six deaths on Wednesday in the country's hospitals.

One death was announced at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, taking the total number of deaths at the trust to 2,612. The trust runs the Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals.

Overall, a total of 801 people have died at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, 740 at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, and 722 at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

At the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust a total of 1,715 have died, and at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS trust 1,377 have died.

A total of 48,535,975 vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 5,845,829 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 3,382,485 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and May 18.
