Anyone without symptoms can get a free rapid test without an appointment at the unit, off Well Lane.

It will then move to New Cross Hospital next week.

John Denley, Wolverhampton’s director of public health, said: “We know that one in three people infected with Covid-19 do not show symptoms yet may still pass it on.

“By getting a rapid test, people can help us track down some of these hidden infections and prevent the spread of Covid-19 – and that’s why we are encouraging everyone living in Wolverhampton to get tested twice a week.”

As well as the mobile testing unit, free rapid testing for people without symptoms of Covid-19 is also available at the Civic Centre; the Jamia Masjid Bilal in Newhampton Road West; Pendeford Library only until Sunday; and the Hub at Ashmore Park.

Mr Denley added: “If you are testing at home, please remember to register your result, whether it is negative or positive – a negative result is as important as a positive one because it gives our public health team vital data and information to monitor and keep on top of the virus, which will help us get back to normal, quicker.”

Rapid testing is not available for people who have symptoms of Covid-19, including a fever, a new continuous cough or a change to the sense of taste or smell, or people who have been told to isolate. Anyone with symptoms should immediately self-isolate and book a PCR test by visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test or calling 119.
