Now those aged 42 and over called up for vaccine
People aged 42 and over are being urged to book their Covid-19 vaccine – after the eligibility criteria was extended further.
Anyone who is either over 42 years old, or who will turn 42 before July, can now arrange their vaccine appointment through the national booking website.
The vaccine is also available to anyone who is clinically extremely vulnerable, people with a learning disability, frontline health and social care workers, and people who are in receipt of Carer's Allowance or are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if their carer falls ill.
People who are eligible, but have not yet had their first jab are asked to get it as a matter of urgency.
Meanwhile an increasing number of people are now getting their second dose, giving them greater protection against the deadly virus.
John Denley, Wolverhampton Council's director of public health, said: "The vaccine is the best protection we have against Covid-19.
"It's likely that the easing of restrictions as we leave lockdown will lead to an increase in infection rates so now, more than ever, is the time to get your jab if you are eligible and haven’t yet had it.
"Please remember that even once you have had both doses of the vaccine, you must still continue to adhere to the measures the Government has put in place to stop the spread of Covid-19, and follow the hands, face, space and fresh air guidance. Please also consider having a regular Covid-19 rapid test.”
NHS medical director, Professor Stephen Powis, said: “Just two weeks after rolling out the vaccine to those aged 45 and over, we are now ready to invite those aged 42 and 43, as the largest vaccination programme in NHS history continues at speed.
“The rapid rollout of the NHS vaccination programme, the swiftest in Europe, hasn’t happened by accident – it is down to months of careful planning and sheer hard work by nurses, doctors and countless other staff supported by our volunteers.
“If you receive a text inviting you to book in for your jab, please follow the instructions provided – it is simple, effective and provides vital protection against the coronavirus.”
