Two thirds of adults have had first jab across Shropshire as roll-out continues

Nearly two thirds of people in Shropshire have now received their first dose of the Covid vaccine, according to the latest figures.

NHS data shows that 272,760 people in the county had received a first jab by April 18 – 181,762 in the Shropshire Council area and 90,998 in the Telford & Wrekin catchment.

It means 67 per cent of Shropshire's 16 and over population have been vaccinated, along with 64 per cent of those in Telford & Wrekin.

In Powys the number of vaccinations has now passed 125,000, with 88,600 first doses and 37,000 second doses.

In Shropshire the number of those over 50 who have now been vaccinated is 144,036 – 95 per cent of the age group, while in Telford 65,085 have received the jab – 99 per cent of the age group.

It means 63,639 people aged between 16 to 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine.

There have also been 68,978 second doses now administered across both areas.

Across England, 27.5 million people had received their first dose of a vaccine by April 18, covering 61 per cent of the population aged 16 and over.

That includes 20 million people aged 50 and over – 95 per cent of the age group.

The figures also show that 8.7 million people have had a second dose of the jab – 19 per cent of people over 16.

A small number of people are not included due to their age being unknown.
