19 more coronavirus deaths across Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire

A further 19 coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in hospitals in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

The deaths announced on Wednesday mean 7,180 people have now died with the virus in the region's hospitals.

On top of this, a further 1,339 have died in the region's care homes after contracting coronavirus.

In figures released from NHS England on Wednesday, a further 302 deaths were confirmed in the country's hospitals – taking the total to 82,156.

A further seven deaths were confirmed at the Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, where 1,090 people have now died with Covid.

Three deaths were announced at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, meaning 689 Covid patients have now died at Walsall Manor Hospital.

Two deaths were reported at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, where the death toll at New Cross Hospital increased to 762.

One death was recorded at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs the main hospitals in Stafford and Stoke, taking the trust's death toll to 1,324.

And six deaths were confirmed at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Queen Elizabeth Hospital as well as Heartlands, Solihull and Good Hope hospitals, taking the death toll there to 2,473.

No new deaths were announced at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, meaning the death toll remains at 688.

Elsewhere, three deaths were reported at the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 302 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 82,156.

"Patients were aged between 32 and 103 years old. All except 14 – aged 32 to 91 years old – had known underlying health conditions.

Date of death ranges from October 21 to February 23, with the majority being on or after February 19.

"Their families have been informed."

Meanwhile, 15,926,415 coronavirus vaccinations have been carried out across England to date – including first and second doses.

In the Midlands, 2,969,599 first doses of the coronavirus vaccine has been administered, while 80,264 second doses have been carried out.

The data includes vaccinations carried out between December 8 and February 23.
