Health workers and trained volunteers will be on hand to test Bilston residents for the virus when the new facility officially opens at the town’s community centre in Prouds Lane on Monday.

The rapid testing centre is for people without any symptoms of Covid-19, and is intended to support employees from local shops and offices as well as members of the public.

Councillor Linda Leach, the council’s cabinet member for adults services, said: “I’m really pleased that Bilston now has its own rapid testing centre at last.

“I would encourage all residents in the town to come along and get their tests like I will be doing. We all need to do our bit to help reduce the spread of the virus.

“This centre is specifically for people without any symptoms of the virus to be tested, and I hope residents will use it to keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Everyone who attends will receive their test results within an hour.

“Regular testing will also assist in the support of businesses and shops in Bilston, helping them to stay open and Covid-secure,” she added.

The centre will be open for a pilot day today between 12 noon and 4pm. It will then be open on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays between 8am and 4pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 4pm.

“Detailed standard operating procedures will be in place and these have been signed off by Public Health,” said Councillor Leach.

All visitors will be required to wear protective face masks and adhere to social distancing measures.
