Further 27 Covid-19 deaths at hospitals in Black Country, Staffordshire and Birmingham

A further 27 patients who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospitals in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

The deaths announced today mean a total of 4,293 people have now died in the region’s hospitals after contracting the virus.

In figures announced by NHS England today, a further 339 people have died in hospitals across the country, bringing the total to 46,122.

Another seven people died at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs County Hospital in Stafford and Royal Stoke University Hospital, taking the coronavirus death toll there to 788.

Nine deaths were recorded at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust which runs Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals, where the total now stands at 1,522 and three people have died at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, where 628 have now died in total.

One person has also died at the Birmingham Community Healthcare Foundation Trust, bringing the total to 49, with three deaths reported at Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, bringing the total to 36.

Two deaths were reported today at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, where the death toll stands at 422.

One person died at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital, where the toll stands at 406.

No deaths were recorded at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals, where the total stands at 416.

Elsewhere, four patients have died at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and one at North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust.
