Coronavirus: Two further deaths at Black Country hospitals

A further two patients who tested positive for coronavirus have died in hospitals in the Black Country.

It means 2,934 people have now died with Covid-19 in the region's hospitals since the pandemic began as of November 6.

A further 722 have died with the virus in care homes across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

The two deaths announced on Saturday included one in Dudley and one in Walsall.

One death was reported at Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital where the deaths toll now stands at 298.

One patient was confirmed to have died at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs the Manor Hospital, where the toll reached 262.

No new deaths were recorded at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Foundation Trust, the Royal Wolverhampton Trust, Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust, Midlands Partnership NHS Trust in Staffordshire or University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 283 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 34,374.

Patients were aged between 39 and 100 years old. All except nine (aged 39-88) had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from 14 May to 6 November 2020.

"Their families have been informed."
