Four new coronavirus deaths confirmed in region

Four more coronavirus deaths have been reported at hospitals in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

Four more deaths have been reported

It means the Covid-19 death toll at hospitals in the region is now at 2,647, after the latest figures were revealed on Tuesday.

A further 87 people, who tested positive for coronavirus, have died in hospitals in England, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths to 30,594.

One new death was confirmed at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell and City hospitals, taking the total to 395. The patient died on October 10.

A further death was announced at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs Stafford County and Stoke Royal hospitals, where the overall total now stands at 362. The patient died on October 11.

And two further deaths were confirmed at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, where a total of 1,025 patients have now died. The patients died on October 11.

At the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals, a total of 295 people have died.

At the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital, 231 people have died.

A total of 268 people have died at Dudley Group NHS Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital.

A further 705 people have died in care homes across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.

A spokesman from NHS England said: "A further 87 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 30,594.

"Patients were aged between 30 and 96 years old. All but six patients – aged between 72 and 86 years old – had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from October 6 to October 12, with the majority being on or after October 10.

"Their families have been informed."
