Latest Wolverhampton coronavirus patient death confirmed

Three more coronavirus deaths have been recorded at hospitals across the region, the latest NHS figures show.

One death was confirmed in Wolverhampton along with one in Birmingham and one in Staffordshire.

Their deaths were confirmed in NHS figures released on Sunday.

It means 2,621 have now died in hospitals across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire after contracting coronavirus.

A further 704 people have died in the region's care homes.

The latest Covid-19 patient to die at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross Hospital, died on Friday taking the death toll at the trust to 290.

A patient also died at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust on the same die.

That takes the total number of coronavirus deaths at the trust, which runs which runs Queen Elizabeth, Good Hope, Heartlands, and Solihull hospitals, to 1,011.

The latest death at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs Stafford's County Hospital and Royal Stoke University Hospital, happened on Saturday and means 360 Covid-19 patients have now died at the trust.

Meanwhile 268 people have died at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital.

At the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, 391 people have died, and 230 people have died at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital.

Across England 28 hospital coronavirus deaths were announced by the NHS on Sunday, taking the total to 30,166.

The UK-wide death toll released by the Government, which includes deaths in and out of hospital, stood at 42,317 on Saturday.

A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 28 people, who tested positive for the Coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 30,166.

"Patients were aged between 69 and 94 years old. All had known underlying health conditions.

"Date of death ranges from 1 October to 3 October 2020 with the majority being on or after 2 October.

"Their families have been informed."
