Coronavirus: Region’s death toll reaches 2,610 after further five confirmed
A further five coronavirus patients have died in hospitals across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire.
The latest figures take the total of deaths in hospitals in the region to 2,610.
One death was confirmed at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust on September 28 – the first in over a month. It takes the total of deaths at the trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals, to 289.
A further death was confirmed at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General Hospital, taking the total to 391.
At the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, one death was confirmed on September 28. It takes the total of deaths at the trust to 268.
One death was announced at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs Stafford's County Hospital, taking the total to 356. It was the first death confirmed at the trust since August 3.
And one death was confirmed at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust (UHBT), which runs the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, taking the total to 1,005.
It comes as NHS England announced a further 43 people had died from coronavirus in hospitals, in figures announced on Wednesday.
A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 43 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 30,005.
"Patients were aged between 43 and 98 years old. All except one – aged 72 years old – had known underlying health conditions.
"Date of death ranges from August 22, to September 29, with the majority being on or after September 24.
“Their families have been informed.”
