Rotary club donates £1,000 to help families with new school term
A Rotary club has donated £1,000 to a church for a project which supports families with children going back to school.
The new school term can be an expensive time for parents, so the Rotary Club of Bilston and Wolverhampton West have stepped in to provide back to school packs for local families in need.
With the added pressures that have been left behind in the midst the coronavirus pandemic, with some families and individuals experiencing job losses and tighter purse strings, the new school term has felt more expensive than ever for local families in Ettingshall and Bilston.
So, the Rotary Club came up with an idea to support some of the families who have been hit the hardest. They have funded a project being run by Excel Church in Bilston where they are purchasing about 180 ‘back to school’ packs for some of the most vulnerable families in the area.
Councillor Beverley Momenabadi, who is the youngest councillor and Rotarian in Wolverhampton, said: “Job losses amidst Covid-19 have impacted local families hard, so it’s great that the club have been able to support Excel Church by providing essential back to school items for children such as pencil cases, stationary, water bottles and backpacks.”
Andy Baker, the president of Bilston and Wolverhampton West Rotary Club, and Councillor Beverley Momenabadi handed over the cheque for £1,000 to Trish from the centre on Wednesday.
Mr Baker said: “We were thrilled to hand over the cheque today to the team at Excel to ensure the back to school packs get to those families most in need. If you know a family in Bilston or Ettingshall who might need one, please contact trisha@bilstonpeoplescentre.org.uk”
The Rotary Club of Bilston and Wolverhampton West have continued to support local organisations during the pandemic by donating funds to Excel Church’s Food Bank and purchasing PPE for local care homes.
