The city's council has announced it will expand its testing capacity and carry out more swab tests.

Two testing sites are currently in operation in Wolverhampton at Showell Road, in Bushbury, and Aldersley Leisure Village, in Claregate.

However the council did not specify if any new sites would be set up.

Councillor Jasbir Jaspal, cabinet member for public health and wellbeing, said: "We want to improve access to testing as much as possible, and that’s why we are working with the department for health and social care on a number of options to increase testing capacity across the city so that we can provide more local access to those who need it most.

"We’re also looking to carry out proactive swabbing of people working in more of our higher risk settings so that we can reduce the likelihood of potential outbreaks and, if there is an outbreak, are able to get on top of the situation sooner."
