No new coronavirus deaths in Black Country, Birmingham or Staffordshire hospitals

No new coronavirus deaths have been confirmed in the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire, in the latest figures.

It means the death toll in the region's hospitals remains at 2,540.

Last week, no new hospital deaths were recorded in the Black Country and Birmingham six times, and in Staffordshire five times.

Another 78 coronavirus deaths were confirmed in care homes across the region today, although all of the residents died several weeks ago.

The UK-wide death toll released by the Government, which includes deaths in and out of hospitals, increased by 110 to 45,422 today.

The number of deaths in hospitals in England rose by 15 to 29,202 but none of the new deaths announced took place in the Midlands.

The death toll at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals, remains at 285; while a total of 264 patients have died at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital.

The toll at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, which runs Walsall Manor Hospital, is at 229; while a total of 379 patients have died at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals.

A total of 353 people have died at the University Hospitals of North Midlands Trust, which runs County Hospital in Stafford and Royal Stoke University Hospital.

At the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals, the death toll stands at 960.

Over in Worcestershire, a total of 305 people have died in hospital after contracting Covid-19.

An NHS England spokesman said: "A further 15 people, who tested positive for coronavirus (Covid-19) have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 29,202.

"Patients were aged between 46 and 90 years old. Five patients, aged between 46 and 84, had no known underlying health conditions.

"Their families have been informed."

The daily hospital figures include Covid-19 patients whose deaths were confirmed in the previous 24 hours, not who died in that period.
