But the site's owners Engie said the demolition of the main structures are still scheduled for demolition later this year.

A spokesman for Engie said: "Like many major projects, the outbreak of Covid-19 brought a temporary pause on works, though site remediation work soon restarted in line with Government guidance.

"The main structures, including the rest of the boiler house, chimney and cooling towers are currently still scheduled for controlled collapse in 2020. The complete demolition of the site is expected in 2021."

The fifth demolition using explosives brought down another part of the former power station in February.

And in January both Cannock Chase Council and Lichfield District Council approved outline plans in January to transform the site into 2,300 homes, housing for the elderly, commercial buildings and a primary school.

But last month a revised planning application for the site was submitted which includes either an all-through school or a primary school and new sports provision.
