Six more coronavirus deaths in Black Country and Birmingham hospitals
A further six coronavirus patients have been confirmed to have died in hospitals across the Black Country and Birmingham.
Today's announcement means the Covid-19 death toll in hospitals across the Black Country, Birmingham and Staffordshire is now at 2,424. A further 552 patients have died in care homes.
No new deaths were announced in Staffordshire today.
The UK-wide death toll released by the Government, which includes deaths in and out of hospital, increased by 55 to 40,597 although analysis of official figures suggests the true death toll is around 50,000.
The number of deaths in hospitals in England went up by 59 to 27,490.
Of the new deaths five were at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, taking the total to 930. The trust runs Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals.
A further death was confirmed at the Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, in charge of the Manor Hospital, where the total is 218.
No new deaths were recorded at the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Russells Hall Hospital, where the total is 255, or at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, which runs New Cross and Cannock Chase hospitals, where the total is 277.

There were also no new deaths reported at the Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust, which runs Sandwell General and City hospitals, where the total remains 360, or at the University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, which runs Stafford's County Hospital and Royal Stoke University Hospital, where the total is 315.
No new deaths were confirmed in Worcestershire, where the total death toll in the county's hospitals remains 290.
A spokesman for NHS England said: "A further 59 people, who tested positive for coronavirus have died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in hospitals in England to 27,490.
"Patients were aged between 34 and 100 years old. Three patients – aged between 54 and 68 years old – had no known underlying health conditions.
"Their families have been informed."
NHS England bosses confirmed that no deaths in London were being reported on Monday but said a small number of deaths occurred and would be announced in the coming days.
The daily figures include Covid-19 patients whose deaths were confirmed in the previous 24 hours, not who died in that period.
