Date set for Cannock and Rugeley markets to open
Outdoor and indoor markets in Cannock and Rugeley are ready to reopen.
Rugeley Outdoor Market opened up this morning and Cannock Street Market will reopen on Friday, June 19.
Bosses said all traders have been briefed, there will be signs displaying social distancing measures, hand sanitiser will be available and all hard surfaces will be sanitised regularly.
Cannock Indoor and Rugeley Indoor Market Halls are also working towards opening the week beginning June 15.
A representative for Sketts, which runs the Cannock Street Market, said: "There will be over 20 traders back, including fruit and veg, baked goods and household essentials but please note there will be a revised market layout to ensure the safety of all and two-metre distancing is being applied. It is also important to support your local businesses more than normal at these times."
More Covid-19 coverage:
Councillor Gordon Alcott said: "A lot of planning has been put into the reopening of the outdoor markets in the district, to ensure that the appropriate social distancing measures are in place and that all operators are following government guidance.
“We would remind visitors that everyone needs to observe the measures being put in place, otherwise there is a risk that the markets could be closed down again.
“The council is currently planning to introduce wider social distancing measures in the town centres in time for the reopening of non essential shops from June 15."
