School student launches petition calling for NHS day
A Black Country school pupil has created a petition calling for an annual day of recognition for NHS staff.
The campaign has been launched by Harvey, a Year 7 student at St Michaels CE High School, in Rowley Regis.
He wants to pay tribute to the bravery and sacrifice of NHS staff after seeing how many health and care workers have lost their lives amid the coronavirus pandemic.
His petition currently has more than 450 signatures. The petition has been supported by Sandwell Council.
Watch: Sandwell Council leader Yvonne Davies supports the petition
Council leader Yvonne Davies said: "The council is backing the idea of having a day to celebrate all of the individuals who have been there for all of us through this crisis.
"So many people have sacrificed a huge amount to make sure the rest of us are safe and looked after - our NHS staff, our carers, our binmen and women, all our bus drivers and all of those important workers."
