David Edwardson takes on a challenge to raise money for charity.

David Edwardson, along with friend Rachel Hankey, are aiming to walk 26 miles – from Gnosall to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

Mr Edwardson, who has Parkinson's, is taking on the challenge – on September 26 – to raise funds for the NHS.

He said: "It started off as the two of us and now there's around 40 to 50 people taking part – villagers have been invited to walk with us if they wish to as well.

Covid-19 coverage:

"We originally were doing London to Gnosall and that got put on the back burner due to coronavirus, so we decided to do something like walking to the hospital.

"They gave us permission and we started putting it together. We're very excited about it – it'll be brilliant."

The pair will leave Gnosall at 7.30am before arriving in Stoke at around 4pm, where they will be greeted by a 40-strong male choir.

They will be joined by key workers from the police force, fire service NHS and other key workers – such as retail workers and farmers.

And they will be backed by the scouts, guides, Women's Institute and the Royal British Legion – with a float featuring a DJ to create a carnival atmosphere, and to spread "a little sunshine".

Mr Edwardson, a former Express & Star worker, has previously raised money – and awareness of the condition – through a series of events.

He aims to raise a total of £5,000 through the challenge.
