A delegation from the Guru Ka Niwas Gurdwara were joined by Wolverhampton South East MP Pat McFadden and Interfaith Wolverhampton chair Jas Dehar in donating food and a cheque for £610 to New Cross Hospital.

The donation included boxes of food, fruit and vegetables and an array of soft drinks, all donated by members of the gurdwara.

The gurdwara has taken a lead on helping people in its community in Parkfields and further out during the coronavirus outbreak.

In addition to donating food and other supplies to the hospital, committee members and volunteers have worked to run a daily langar kitchen at the site on Rothesay Gardens.

More Covid-19 coverage:

The kitchen has provided free packaged hot food and refreshments to vulnerable and in need people across the community.

Amrik Singh, president of the Guru Ka Niwas Gurdwara, was part of the delegation to the hospital and spoke of the work the Gurdwara does to help people.

He said: “The Sikh community always donates to charity, and we are doing the langar kitchens for the community, so it was good to be able to donate to the NHS.

"We support the hospital because we are born there and we die there and it’s right to pay our respects to the nurses and staff working there."

"The Sikh community will always be in the frontline to do charity and make donations with langar, money and other help.

"Anywhere that we are needed, we will be there to help."
