The friends, both aged 47, from Codsall, completed the ambitious goal by running around their neighbourhood every Monday and Thursday, while maintaining social distancing rules, to raise funds for the The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

Residents came out of their homes along the way to clap the pink pair as they ran towards their goal of 100 miles.

More Covid-19 coverage:

The pair have raised more than £6,700 in total. Budgens in Bilbrook has also helped by raising awareness of the challenge as well as a £1,000 donation and fundraising buckets in store.

The pals are serial charity fundraisers and have been running marathons for more than 10 years dressed in various themed costumes, raising upwards of £60,000 for a number of charities.

Earl also works as a care worker at the Willows Care Home in Codsall.

As part of their challenge, the pair wanted to run the final laps at New Cross Hospital to say thank you to all of the front line staff working during the coronavirus pandemic.

Stuart, shop manager at Cargill in Bilbrook, said: “We’ve done this to raise funds to help the staff and key workers at New Cross Hospital who are doing extraordinary work.

"Originally we set a target of £200 but within a few days we were amazed by the support from everyone and literally smashed the target. We have raised so many smiles and laughter in these dark, testing, lockdown days and using our exercise to its max.”
