Jo Wilson, 49, had her hair shaved off to grade one length, before undergoing a wet shave by her partner Pete Fletcher, 55.

She was inspired to carry out the fundraising event after seeing the plight of NHS workers on TV. Jo was also inspired to take up the challenge as her friend Cerys Akarca, 53, a nurse also from Kingswinford, is currently undergoing chemotherapy for cancer.

Jo said: "My friend is undergoing chemotherapy at the moment. I wanted to support her at this difficult time.

"I wanted to do something worthwhile. I chose to support NHS Charities Together which supports nurses and frontline workers who are looking after people with Covid-19.

"I think the job NHS workers are doing at the moment is amazing. You see lots of pictures on nurses and doctors doing 12-hour shifts in face masks.

More Covid-19 coverage:

"They are left with scars on their faces but they will also be scared mentally."

Due to the lockdown and social-distancing guidelines, Jo streamed the event live over Facebook. She had friends tune in as far as France and Germany to watch.

Jo spent a year in France while studying at university. She speaks both French and German for her job as operations manager at Aisles UK Limited, which is based in Great Bridge.

She added: "My partner shaved my hair to grade one then he gave me a proper wet shave so I'm now completely bald.

"I say it has gone right down to the wood."

So far, Jo was raised more than £2,320 for the cause. Anyone wishing to donate can visit justgiving.com/fundraising/joanne-wilsonheadshave
