Thousands raised to cover bills of Wolverhampton man on ventilator with Covid-19
More than £4,000 has been raised to pay the bills of a Wolverhampton man who is on a ventilator with coronavirus.
Jay Harley, 38, went into New Cross Hospital on April 15 and has been in intensive care since.
The aviation industry worker had been ill for about a week and a half before being taken to hospital.
A friend of the family launched a fundraising page two days ago which has already raised more than £4,800 by more than 200 donations.
The funds will go towards covering the household bills as Jay's wife Imogen cannot cover it alone.
More Covid-19 coverage:
In the fundraiser, Sophie Kellaway, from Burntwood, says: "As you may already know, Jay went into hospital on April 15 suffering from severe Covid-19.
"He's now entering his third day on a ventilator. The time in ICU means a long road to recovery ahead.
"Mechanical ventilation alone can take months to return to normal after. And that means no income except for statutory sick pay which is only £96 a week whilst he recovers.
"This is where I'm asking for your help. Imz has let me know that she's not going to be able to cover all of their rent and bills on just her salary.
"I can't imagine what she's going through right now and worrying about putting them into debt just to survive on top of this is something she just doesn't need. Equally, we can't have Jay coming out of hospital to a house that can't afford food or electricity.
"I know many people are struggling financially in this crisis but for those of us with secure pay checks - if you have a few quid spare, together we can provide this lovely couple with some security they desperately need.
"They've already been through so much hardship and bad luck, let's give them a helping hand to survive this too."
Sophie said Imogen has been "blown away" by the generosity of people donating.
