He has climbed up some of Europe's tallest mountains. Now Warren Halliwell is aiming to walk 100 miles in his own back garden.

The Government lockdown hasn't stopped the 29-year-old from taking on a challenge.

From Monday, he is aiming to walk 200,000 steps over five days for the NHS.

To add to the mammoth challenge, Warren, from Codsall, will be doing daily challenges - like walking in a dress or telling jokes.

"My fiancée Sophie thinks I'm mad," he said.

"I came up with the idea about a week ago. I want to do something with my time while I have been furloughed.

"My mom works in the NHS and I have already lost relatives to Covid-19. She is brilliant. I want to help out and raise £5,000."

Warren will have to do many laps of his garden. One mile will take about 2,000 steps to complete.

But this sort of daring feat is in his blood. His father was in the Army and his brother is in the RAF.

Warren is the UK training officer for watch-manufacturer Casio. He recently returned from Malaysia training special forces on how to use the watches.

When he was 20, he trekked over the Pyrenees Mountains on the French and Spanish border. Aged 21 he trekked over mountains in North Africa. He followed this up with two treks over the Carpathian Mountains in Romania.

Smile

When he sets off on Monday, it will be a different kind of trek.

"People have been been giving me challenges to keep me occupied," he said.

"It could be telling jokes for one mile. Or I could be wearing a dress for 20 miles. People could set me challenges for a donation.

"It's about putting a smile people's faces amongst the bad news."

He added: "Come rain, wind or shine, I will be walking 20 miles each day."

It comes after 99-year-old military veteran Captain Tom Moore raised millions of pounds for the NHS by walking 100 lengths of his garden.
