University's tribute to Walsall Manor Hospital nurse
The University of Wolverhampton has paid tribute to nursing graduate, Areema Nasreen, who died after contracting coronavirus.
Areema, a mother-of-three, was on a ventilator in intensive care at Walsall Manor Hospital – where she had worked for 17 years, when she died on Friday.
The 36-year-old graduated with a First Class BNurs (Hons) in Adult Nursing in 2019.
Lisa Mould, head of nursing (Walsall and Burton), University of Wolverhampton, said: “Areema was a kind, caring, excellent student nurse whose passion for nursing oozed out of her.
"She achieved a first class honours degree which demonstrated her theoretical knowledge but more importantly she gave her patients high quality, compassionate care. She was extremely proud to have qualified as a Registered Nurse.
“She will be a great loss to our nursing profession and to society.
“We will never forget your smile.”
Dr Alexandra Hopkins, Dean of the Faculty of Education, Health and Wellbeing, added: “The whole University of Wolverhampton community is deeply saddened by the loss of Areema Nasreen.
“Areema graduated from our Adult Nursing course in 2019, and was a very dedicated student during her time with us. Areema embraced education, and followed a 15-year dream to become a registered nurse, excelling in both theory and practical work.
“Our thoughts are with Areema’s friends and family at this incredibly difficult time.”
