The Union of Muslim Organisations (UMO) answered a call from Walsall NHS Healthcare Trust for hand and face moisturiser for the medical staff working flat out.

And it was Walsall-based Travelstar European who were able to source the required product, as well as providing extra plastic aprons.

Mohammed Arif, interim president of the UMO handed over the donation earlier this week.

Asan Fazal, managing director of Travelstar European, said: “We are a leisure and hospitality company and all our operations are halted.

“Our established business partners were able to procure the items. It is a small token of public’s appreciation for all the medical staff fighting the coronavirus pandemic. We are here to help more, if needed.”

More Covid-19 coverage:

Mr Arif added: “Dry skin due to constant washing of hands and wearing of face masks has become a problem and we needed to find moisturisers for it.

“I am pleased to say that yesterday we were able to supply three five-litres of high quality hand and face moisturiser with hand pumps. In addition, 800 plastic aprons were also delivered.

“As you are aware, moisturisers are in difficult supply especially with non-essential shops closed.

“Travelstar European, based in Portland Street, were able to source both the moisturiser and aprons to help the NHS staff fighting the coronavirus.”

Georgie Westley, Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust fundraising manager, said: “Our staff are so grateful for the donation of moisturiser as their skin is suffering at the moment as people can imagine.

“The donation also means they don’t have to worry about going out to stock up after a tiring shift and can get home as quickly as possible to rest.

“Thank you to UMO for such a kind gesture.”
