Mill Green Nature Reserve in Cannock has been closed to the public, with fencing placed across the entry to the car park, after reports of people gathering on the reserve over the weekend.

A spokesman for Cannock Chase Council said: “We had already closed off our play areas and toilet facilities following the government’s advice about social distancing.

"Staffordshire Police contacted us at the weekend to say that groups were coming into Mill Green Reserve where there isn’t a lockable gate.

"As a result we have now erected a barrier to prevent groups of people coming onto the reserve site. We have also put in place other preventative measures at locations such as Castle Ring.”

It comes after all facilities in Staffordshire’s country parks were closed, including toilets.

In Walsall, all outdoor gyms, tennis courts, multi use games areas, park buildings and car parks have been closed by the council.
