As NHS staff battle on the frontline against the coronavirus outbreak, university students from Walsall are offering to run errands for them.

Many universities have decided to suspend face-to-face teaching in a bid to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

As a result, students from Walsall have decided to put their free time to good use and establish the group Walsall Healthcare Students Helping Hands.

Talhah Mohammed, 23, from Walsall, who helped set up the group on WhatsApp, said: "Due to universities closing down and teaching going online, we have free time.

"This group is made up of medical students, nursing and dentistry, who have all been DBS [Disclosure and Barring Service] checked.

"We want to help people working in the NHS. A lot of people are having to work overtime."

The group, made up of volunteers, are offering to help with hospital work, shopping, administration work and even childcare.
