Hotline Cars have delivered more than 50 bags of essential supplies to elderly and vulnerable people in Streetly, Aldridge, Pheasey, Kingstanding and Sutton Coldfield as the coronavirus crisis deepens.

Bosses said they were concerned about people not having basics such as milk, tinned food, rice, breakfast cereal and tea and were triggered into helping.

They initially made up 50 packs and invited shopping requests to deliver them free of charge but have continued to make more as pleas for help keep on coming in.

Director Zahir Abbas said nurses and carers had been getting in touch asking the company to help vulnerable people and this including a woman in her 90s who has stage four cancer and is housebound and lives alone.

Mr Abbas said: “The coronavirus outbreak has been unpredictable and ever-changing.

“In these unprecedented times, Hotline Cars see it as our duty now more than ever to assist the community we have served since 1989.

“Free food parcels for the elderly and vulnerable are being delivered as we speak, to those who may be self isolating, or just physically unable to complete their shopping.

“All levels of our team are actively participating in this initiative, and we have been overwhelmed with the response.”

Mr Abbas added he hopes other people will be encouraged to help and look after people in need in the midst of this crisis.

The company’s efforts and kindness has been praised by members of Walsall Labour Party and Mish Rahman said: “I’m proud that Hotline Cars is offering this help to the community it serves.

“Well done everyone and get ready to support whoever and wherever you can!”
