Medical practice placed in special measures and told to improve or face closure
A medical practice in Great Barr could be shut down if it fails to improve after being rated 'inadequate' and placed in special measures.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspected Great Barr Medical Centre, in Queslett Road, in April and has outlined its findings in a new report published today.
Three GPs at the medical practice were suspended for six months to “safeguard the welfare of patients” in May.
Inspectors found the practice didn’t have appropriate systems in place for the safe management of medicines and that there was a lack of clinical management of people’s health conditions.
Inspectors said the practice was unable to demonstrate effective leadership, they found no system in place for the acknowledgement and investigation of people’s complaints and it lacked clear and effective processes for managing risks, issues and performance.
Its rating has dropped from 'requires improvement' to 'inadequate' overall.
Services placed in special measures are inspected again within six months, but if insufficient improvements are made the CQC can take further action which may include shutting down the GP practice.
