Firm’s year-long pledge to support Acorns Children’s Hospice
A financial services company has started a year of support for a Black Country children’s hospice by paying for a day of care.
Abacus Wealth Services, in Two Woods Lane, Brierley Hill, began a 12-month programme of activity for Acorns Children’s Hospice by making a £7,000 corporate donation, the equivalent of funding a full 24 hours of services.
Abacus made the contribution at the start of a year-long campaign to support the Walsall hospice.
A range of sporting and other fundraising challenges will be undertaken this year by Abacus colleagues to contribute to the Save Acorns Black Country Hospice Appeal, which aims to collect £2 million to secure future support.
Having provided financial services for clients in the region since 2001, Abacus Wealth Services wanted to give back by supporting Acorns in their valued work within the local community.
Daniel Paton, financial adviser, said the team were pleased to support Acorns with their contribution.
He said: “Acorns is a vital part of the community and offers a lifeline for so many local families every single day. Abacus paid for a day of care because we are determined to play our part in helping such a deserving cause.”
The firm has agreed to be a corporate partner for Acorns, designating the charity as its 2021 fundraising good cause and generating other chances to provide support including volunteering opportunities.
Acorns Children’s Hospice provides specialist palliative care for children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions across three specialist centres.
It also provides support for their families.
Vicki Rowles, head of fundraising at Acorns Children’s Hospice, is working with the Abacus team on their partnership.
She said: “Thanks to the generosity of Abacus Wealth Services, we can continue to ensure we can be there for families when they need us most.
“Through their support we can put smiles on children’s faces as they enjoy activities like art therapy, music sessions or a splash in the hydrotherapy spa.
"This contribution has also made it possible for us to be there for families during their most difficult moments, to provide dedicated emergency and end-of-life care.”
