Stepping to it for cancer patients
Young people and staff at a respite centre have begun a challenge to complete 500,000 steps for charity during March.
Progress Care Solutions in Wolverhampton offers short break stays at Stourbridge House to support children with physical and learning disabilities and their families.
Catering for six young people at anyone time, centre staff decided to make their time during lockdown exciting by taking up the sponsored challenge to raise funds for Clic Sargent, a charity for children with cancer.
Bethany Jordan, a 24-year-old support worker at the centre, said: “I have never done any fundraising before and thought it would be fun and raise funds for a very good cause.
"Despite their own struggles, our young people and staff started the fundraiser at the beginning of March to support children with cancer.
"So far they have completed 262,973 steps. We have 24 staff on shifts at different times and they work with six children at a time.
“During the month of March a total of 45 young people will access the centre and take part in the challenge.
“We have been dancing, walking, doing workouts and races and everyone is having a good time while raising funds.”
Centre staff have set a target of £500 for them to complete the challenge but hope to raise much more through the gofunding page on Facebook set up by Stourbridge House.
