Nico-James Beresford from Kingswinford has raised £910 from a 100-lap sponsored walk fundraiser in memory of Captain Sir Tom Moore, who died on February 2.

The two-year-old took part in the walk, which was organised by his nursery The Learning Journey Day Nursery in Pensnett, and the funds raised will go to Russell's Hall Hospital.

His mother, Josie Humphries, is a health care assistant and had received treatment from the hospital in January due to a ruptured appendix and sepsis and said she was amazed at what her son had achieved.

She said: "I'm just really overwhelmed as a parent to see Nico do this and raise as much money as he has from doing this walk, which around the garden at his nursery.

"When I found out about the fundraiser, I was keen for him to take part as they basically saved my life, and he had a lot of fun doing it.

"He's super proud as well and has a little medal the nursery gave him afterwards and he loved doing it in honour of Captain Sir Tom as well."

The walk took place over a week-long period, allowing the children to complete a set number of laps each day.

Mrs Humphries said the nursery had done it to help teach the children about respect and about Captain Sir Tom Moore and said Nico loved talking about him.

She said: "He can look at the pictures of him and say 'That's Tom' whenever he sees the pictures and he really respects him.

"It's brilliant to see him do something like this and even better when it's for a cause that's close to both our hearts like Russell's Hall"
