Rosemary Malpas, aged 75, lost her hair when she underwent chemotherapy and radio therapy after contracting breast cancer.

After completing her treatment, she launched a fundraiser for Compton Care and has now raised £4,471.

She said: "It has been an amazing response for this very worthy cause.

"I have received more than 100 donations, including some from as far afield as Australia, France and Portugal.

"Once I launched the fund-raiser, I have been contacted by friends whom I have not heard from for quite a few years, including my headmistress from when I first went to school.

"I am grateful to everyone who has donated. I have been a volunteer at Compton for 15 years and this has been my way of paying something back for the support they gave my father and I many years ago."

Rosemary eventually hopes to return to her work as a reception volunteer once the lockdown restrictions allow.

Leonie Hudson, community fundraiser at Compton, added: "We are so grateful for Rosemary’s support, as well as the support of her wonderful friends and family who have donated to her fundraiser.

"After losing her hair through chemotherapy and radiotherapy, it’s great that Rosemary wanted to fundraise for us in this unique way.

"We cannot wait to welcome Rosemary back to Compton as a volunteer once we are allowed and we look forward to congratulating her on her total amount raised in person."
