Consultants daring to wear floral scrubs to boost funds
Consultants at a Black Country hospital are getting a flowery makeover by wearing bright scrubs to raise funds for charity.
The Dare to Wear fundraiser at Russells Hall Hospital, in Dudley, will see the consultants in the rheumatology department wear flowery scrubs for two days later this month.
In return, they are asking people to donate to the Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust’s Covid-19 appeal, which helps support the wellbeing of trust staff who have been working through the pandemic over the last 12 months.
The eye-catching scrubs have been donated to the trust by community sewers who came together under the name For the Love of Scrubs, to support healthcare staff by providing extra scrubs since the start of the first lockdown.
Rheumatology consultant Dr Nicola Erb said: “We will have a ‘Dare to Wear’ couple of days where we will wear the scrubs for clinical duties in return for donations to the urgent Covid fund to provide support for frontline staff.
“All the consultants are taking part, including our three male consultants for whom wearing anything more controversial than the occasional patterned tie is daring.”
Trust chief executive Diane Wake added: “This is a fantastic idea.
“The donations will help us continue to look after our incredible staff on the frontline of the Covid-19 pandemic as they care for our patients in the most difficult of circumstances.
“The community has been outstanding in its support for us and our Covid-19 appeal has allowed us to provide treats and a Christmas giftbox for staff, a helpline and wellbeing webinars, among other things.
“I’m really looking forward to seeing the consultants in their flowery scrubs.
“I’m sure it will bring a smile to faces around the trust.” The challenge is due to take place in the week beginning February 22 and will run over two days.
