Golfer’s drive to help good causes
A golfer in Staffordshire has taken part in a series of fundraising events to help raise vital funds for charity amid coronavirus.
Louis Birchall, a member of Ingestre Park Golf Club, took on five challenges for The Club Talks and Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
Both charities aim to raise awareness of suicide – with The Club Talks aiming to help boost people’s mental health through the sport – with more than £1,000 raised in total.
Louis completed the Stafford Half Marathon on March 13 – before the first lockdown which led to the rest of his planned events being cancelled or postponed. But instead of giving up he soldiered on – completing his own version of Ironman 70.3 around Stafford within six hours and 18 minutes on July 18.
He then took on a further challenge as he swam 5km at Aldeford Lake during August, finishing in one hour and 46 minutes and he also took part in a 5km swim at Liverpool Watersports Centre on August 22 , completing the challenge in one hour and 41 minutes.
And on November 28 he carried out his last event – supposed to be the Manchester Marathon – with a 26.2 mile run around Stafford in four hours and 24 minutes.
