Crematorium to reopen following £2m revamp
A Black Country crematorium is set to reopen next month following a £2million refurbishment.
Stourbridge Crematorium has been upgraded with new facilities like two new cremators, a small extension, a canopy and a new music system and TV screens.
The seating capacity of the chapel has also been increased by a third to 90.
The crematorium closed in July for the refurbishment to take place but the grounds have remained open for mourners.
Dudley Council says the South Road-based facility, in Stourbridge, will reopen in mid-December.
Councillor Ian Kettle, cabinet member responsible for crematoriums, said: "I’m pleased that we can re-open Stourbridge crematorium following these important upgrades.
"The work had to be done this year due to the age of the cremation facilities.
"We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during these difficult times.
"Cremations will continue at Gornal Wood until the site opens next month, and the work has not affected burials taking place in the cemetery at Stourbridge."
