The Beacon Centre launches online Christmas raffle
A Black Country-based charity has launched a virtual Christmas raffle to help raise much-needed funds in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Beacon Centre has been supporting people with sight loss in the region for more than 145 years – but has been facing a funding crisis after losing more than £680,000 in the first six months of the pandemic.
Bosses at the charity expect the figure to rise further – as their usual festive fundraising events are cancelled under Covid-19 restrictions and their charity shops forced to close their doors for a month under the second national lockdown.
The charity has now taken its Christmas raffle online, following the success of their summer raffle – and organisers are hoping residents in the Black Country will purchase a ticket to support them.
Raffle tickets cost £2 and prizes include a family day ticket for Hoo Farm in Telford, a family ticket to Dudley Zoo, a family ticket to the Mini Pro Golf Park in Kidderminster, a Christmas hamper and an afternoon tea for two at Mad Hatters Tea Room in Gornal.
Sarah Dovey, Beacon Centre’s fundraising coordinator, said: “We have got some fantastic prizes on offer in our Christmas raffle and we would like to thank all the organisations who have donated a wonderful prize.
“We want to ensure that no one with sight loss is left feeling alone this Christmas and if you buy a ticket, you’ll be helping us to support people when they need us the most.”
The raffle will be drawn on December 14.
