Cornwell's Chemists in Great Wyrley has installed a ground-breaking prescription collection kiosk, a system which will enable customers to collect their medication at any time.

Patients opting to use the MedPoint kiosk, which acts like an ATM machine, can order their prescriptions as normal from the pharmacy.

Once the medication is ready to be collected, they will receive a unique code by SMS which can be used to collect their prescriptions.

Great Wyrley Pharmacy pharmacist manager Pritpal Grewal spoke about the benefits of the new system, which is the first of its kind in Walsall.

He said: "Whether you’re collecting your own or a family member’s medicines, the new machine gives customers the freedom to decide when they want to come to the store and not be constrained by our opening times.

"It will allow us to provide the best possible access to patients in the new normal we are faced with over the next 12-18 months."

Covid-19 coverage:

The machine will help to reduce queues at pharmacies and provide a lifeline to those that struggle to pick up their or their loved ones prescriptions during regular working hours, particularly key workers.

Jonathan Mitchell, owner of Cornwall's Chemists, said the new state of the art machine would offer a very convenient collection option.

He said; "It helps in the fight against Covid, maintains social distancing and is a continuation of Cornwell’s Chemists mission to deliver outstanding customer service."

The collection point is highly secure with integrated alarms, CCTV and is temperature controlled to ensure medicines are stored safely.

Anyone wishing to register to use the service should call 01922 414060 or visit cornwells.co.uk and select Great Wyrley Pharmacy.
