Kirstie Smith was found dead at her home on Rakegate Close, in Oxley, on May 5, 2019.

Police officers found Miss Smith, a mortgage adviser, unresponsive in her bathroom before she was confirmed dead by paramedics.

West Midlands Police officers were initially called to the property over concerns the building was unsecure, Black Country Coroner's Court was told.

A forensic post-mortem investigation established her cause of death was due to MDMA intoxication, the inquest heard.

Police are no longer treating her death as suspicious.

An investigation remains ongoing into a 23-year-old man who was arrested over drug offences, said a police spokesman.

Area coroner for the West Midlands, Joanne Lees, adjourned the inquest until June 2.

She told the court: "Her death was reported to me by West Midlands Police. She died sadly at her home address.

"Police attended a property at about 9.13am following concerns the property was unsecure. Officers found Miss Smith unresponsive in the bathroom.

"Paramedics attended and confirmed she had passed away. Police treated the death as suspicious. A forensic post-mortem established a medical cause of death as 1A MDMA intoxication."

She added: "I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Kirstie Smith."

MDMA is a Class A drug, also known as ecstasy.

The home was cordoned off at the time by police.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "Detectives investigating the death of a woman who was found in a property in Rakegate Close, Oxley on May 5, 2019, have deemed her death not to be suspicious and the matter has been referred to the coroner.

"A 23-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of murder at the time, has been released with no charge in relation to this.

"He has since been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences, and an investigation remains ongoing into this."
