Edward Robinson, aged nine from Wombourne, is raising money for New Cross Hospital's Neonatal Unit by walking and cycling 50 miles in one week.

He wanted to raise money for the Neonatal Unit as his younger sister, Freya, was born in November 14 weeks early weighing just 1.12oz.

She spent 14 weeks in New Cross Hospital before eventually being able to come home in February, however she is still on oxygen and tube fed.

After being inspired by 100-year-old fundraising hero, colonel Tom Moore, Edward decided he wanted to do something to say thank you to the staff at the Wolverhampton NHS Trust who saved his little sister's life.

Mum Stephanie Dalton, said: "Edward decided he wanted to cover 50 miles over one week, so he will cover at least seven miles per day.

"He has been practising while doing his one hour daily exercise, however now exercise is unlimited, he is going to aim to complete the challenge during Whitsun week starting on May 23.

"His target was originally £500, but now he has raised more than £1,000 so far with the total still rising through his Just Giving page and cash donations.

"We are hoping to present the money to the Neonatal Unit once the Covid-19 pandemic allows us to do so."

To donate to Edward's fundraiser visit his Just Giving website where Stephanie will also be sharing regular updates of Edward's fundraiser.
