CQC inspection reveals Dudley care home is improving
A care home for elderly people with dementia which was placed in special measures is now improving.
The Himley Manor Care Home on Himley Road has now been rated as “requires improvement”, a step up from the “inadequate” rating it received in August, following an inspection in January.
Earlier this year it received the lowest possible rating from The Care Quality Commission (CQC) with health inspectors saying it was unsafe and badly managed in a report.
But in September it was inspected again, with CQC officials describing the home as safe, effective and caring.
However, it still requires improvement in it’s responsiveness, and leadership.
The CQC inspector said in their report: “People and staff felt well supported and told us that the service was well managed, and many improvements had been made since our last inspection.
“Risks to people had been assessed and staff had a good understanding of these risks and how to minimise them.
“Improvements had been made to the training and support that staff received so they had the skills to meet people’s needs.
“People were supported by staff who were caring. People were involved in decisions around their care and were treated with dignity.”
In the last report, inspectors found that people were not always protected from the risk of abuse and that there had been significant staff changes that had impacted negatively on the care of residents.
Registered manager at Himley Manor Val Bunn said about the latest report: “To say we are over the moon with this inspection is an understatement.
“The staff here have been absolute gems. They have been as passionate as me about getting here, moving forward and getting out of special measures.
"We have all worked extremely hard. The residents here deserve to be in an environment that is safe.
“And have delivered the standard of care expected by CQC.”
