More time given for Tettenhall surgery consultation
A consultation on the proposed closure of an under-threat GP surgery has been extended.
Tettenhall Medical Practice is considering shutting its Wood Road surgery and combining services at its second practice in Lower Street.
A 90-day consultation on the proposals was due to come to an end on Sunday but has since been extended until August 30.
It comes as more than 1,050 people have backed calls to save the surgery and have signed an online petition.
Wolverhampton South West MP Eleanor Smith said: “I am very pleased the Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group has extended the consultation period regarding the proposed closure of Wood Road branch.
"The patients, more than 2,300 who have signed a petition against the closure, need to be heard. As do the patients of Lower Green surgery who will be impacted by the closure too.”
Spiralling costs, difficulties in recruiting permanent medics and a national shortage of GPs have all been blamed for the decision to close the branch.
Almost 200 patients packed into Tettenhall Wood's Christ Church earlier this month as the closure plans were discussed.
