300 new paramedics to be recruited at West Midlands Ambulance Service
More than 300 new paramedics will be recruited by West Midlands Ambulance Service in 2019, it has been announced.
By Christmas next year, 225 more student paramedics and around 90 graduate and registered paramedics will be taken on by the ambulance service, which covers the Black Country and Staffordshire as well as Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Coventry, and Birmingham.
Recruitment manager, Louise Harris, said the service's student paramedic programme has seen more than 1,000 members of staff taken on since it began.
She said: “Our innovative student paramedic programme has proved hugely successful since its introduction, seeing more than 1,000 members of staff taken on through it.
“It is therefore fantastic news that we have the chance to open it up once again with 225 more students set to join the service, as well as about 90 graduate and registered paramedics, meaning more than 300 extra members of staff will be on the road by Christmas 2019. It is fantastic news that our preparations are so advanced at this stage.
“By ensuring we have a steady flow of qualified paramedics coming into the service at the end of their studies, it allows us to maintain a skill mix that sees a paramedic based on every vehicle, which is fantastic news for patients in the region."

The vacancies will be on jobs.nhs.uk from December 1 at 23.59pm to December 24.
