Sergeant Martin Danher, who is part of the Wednesfield North/South and Bilston neighbourhood police team, is running the marathon next year.

Father-of-two Martin is running the epic race in aid of charity CLIC Sargent Young Lives v Cancer.

The charity is aimed at supporting children suffering from cancer as well as supporting bereaved parents.

Since finding out he had been accepted to run the race in central London in 2018, the sergeant has been approached by members of a well-known Gurdwara in Wolverhampton who have agreed to support him.

The committee at the Gurdwara, based on Well Lane, has offered to donate £250 to the sergeant after hearing about his fundraising endeavours.

Speaking of his marathon hopes, Martin said: "I cannot believe how much the community is rallying around me and offering me their support.

"I have two beautiful children and like all parents my children are my world.

"The very thought of either of them going through cancer is too painful to bear.

"The help and support that CLIC Sargent give to children suffering with cancer as well as their parents is amazing.

"I am trying my hardest to raise as much money as possible for this charity.

"Whenever I experience a hard run or when I am running in the cold, rain or frost and I think it is too much, I just think about the impact that my fundraising is having on making life that little bit better for a child with cancer."
