Hundreds due to attend annual charity conference
More than 200 people from hospices and health organisations across the Midlands will be attending the annual conference run by a city charity.
Compton Hospice’s Annual Conference, entitled ‘Thinking Differently About Palliative and End of Life Care’ takes place today (Wednesday, November 1) at Wolverhampton Science Park.
It will explore creative approaches to designing and delivering palliative and end of life care, with a focus on non-malignant conditions, and will consider the role of hospices both now and in the future.
A total of 10 experts including keynote speakers, professor Steve Field, Carole Walford the chief clinical officer at Hospice UK and professor Keri Thomas OBE, will be covering a wide range of topics relating to the conference’s theme and providing rich insights into the work they have been involved in. Compton Hospice chief executive Claire Marshall will also be speaking at the event.
There will also be representatives from numerous organisations at the event including Wolverhampton Lymphoedema Service, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Wolverhampton MS Therapy Centre and Healthwatch Wolverhampton.
Dr Katherine Birch, head of education and development, said: “At Compton, our aim is to ensure that everyone receives the high-quality and personalised care they deserve and we are determined to work collaboratively to achieve this ambition.
“However, with an increasingly ageing population, many of whom have complex conditions, and with major changes being proposed to the organisation of health and social care in England, we would suggest that there is an urgent need for all of us to think differently about how palliative and end of life care should be designed and who delivers it.
“Our annual conference is an opportunity for us to explore creative approaches to providing palliative and end of life care and to think about our roles now and in the future.”
