Walsall Manor Hospital sees another 104 ambulance delays
Walsall Manor Hospital recorded more than 100 ambulance transfer breaches in a month incurring a hefty fine for ruling bosses.
The emergency department at the Moat Road site continues to struggle with processing patients within the required time of half an hour - 15 minutes to clinically transfer the care of the patient and 15 minutes for the crew to make the ambulance ready for the next person.
According to the latest figures in April there were 104 transfers - four per cent of the 2,597 in total - that took longer than 30 minutes, including 11 which took longer than an hour. The failings have resulted in a fine of £31,800 for that month.
It comes after the Express & Star revealed earlier this year the Manor had saw 1,609 transfer breaches between April 2016 and February incurring a whopping £555k sanction. West Midlands Ambulance Service has previously stated delays with crews leaving hospital affects response times for other patients putting them at risk.
A hospital performance report said a number of measures were in place to tackle the issue including plans to establish a more effective 'front door' assessment unit specifically for patients from ambulances, which should speed up transfers.
