Dudley care home rated good by inspectors
A care home in the Black Country has been rated ‘good’ across all five categories of inspection by a health watchdog.
Island Court Care Home, in Woodsetton, Dudley, was given the rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).
Representatives from CQC undertook an unannounced visit to the home in February, and the report has rated the home ‘good’ for being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
The home provides residential and nursing care for up to 55 older people, some of whom are living with dementia.
The home was commended for its good operational structure, with open channels for residents, relatives and staff to give their views and feedback. Relatives also gave positive feedback.
The report stated: “People were treated with dignity and respect by staff who they described as kind and caring. People benefitted from being supported by a stable staff group, many of whom had worked at the home for a number of years.
“People were complimentary about the service and the registered manager and considered it to be well led. Staff felt supported and listened to. The registered manager had established a good working relationship with the new providers.”
It added: “The registered manager told us her biggest challenge was keeping up with standards and ensuring people living at the home were looked after. She told us the audits that were in place helped her to achieve these goals.”
Susan Geary-Campbell, home manager, said: “This is such a delight to receive our Good CQC report, and with so many positive comments about all areas of the home and our care.
“We are very fortunate to have a stable group of staff, many of whom have worked here for a good number of years.
“I have been here for 18 years and we have such a committed team with great support from families – the home has a familiar and ‘friendly’ atmosphere. This rating is definitely a team effort, and we are very proud.”
