Extra parking coming to Cannock Hospital

Plans to create dozens of extra car park spaces for Cannock Hospital and the district council are set to be approved.

The proposal is to demolish two bungalows and garages at the site off Beecroft Road.

It currently provides around 200 spaces for Cannock Chase District Council staff. The buildings were once used for the authority's caretakers but are now vacant.

The move comes after the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust took over the hospital in 2014 and declared a need for more parking to deliver a new service model.

The proposal is to extend the car park to create 277 bays in total – 94 for the public and 183 for council staff.

The site would be operated by a pay and display facility.

The council's planning committee are set to rule on the plans on Wednesday.
