Death rates at Stafford and Cannock Chase hospitals drop again
Fewer patients than expected are dying at hospitals run by Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust, figures show today.
The trust, which runs Stafford and Cannock Chase hospitals, had a mortality rate of 83.2 on a scale measured where the expected death rate is 100.
The figures for 2012 continue the improvement in the trust's figures from last year, when the rate was 96.2.
In Wolverhampton the rate was 100.7 while for Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust it was 93.3 and Walsall NHS Healthcare Trust's was 94.3.
Mid Staffs chief executive Maggie Oldham said: "This data from Dr Foster is just one of the measures we use to assess the quality of care we provide and to help us identify any areas where we can improve further.
"There is always more that can be done and we are determined to continue to do so. I would like to thank our staff who have remained focussed on providing safe care for patients."
